ONLY SUITS PXII & PXIII 3.2L 5Cyl MODELS
The Safari ARMAX ‘X Series’ Engine Control Unit (ECU) is an unrivaled instrument of performance enhancement for the Ford Ranger PXII & PXIII 3.2L 5Cyl. It works hand-in-hand with the factory ECU, augmenting power, torque, increasing throttle responsiveness, diminishing turbo lag, improving fuel economy, and maintaining the longevity of the engine–which is preserved by Safari’s market-leading engine protection systems and technologies–safeguarding its life.

For the health of a diesel engine, Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) is vital. An ARMAX ECU has a closed loop EGT control with feedback that:
- A sensor in the exhaust system tracks monitoring exhaust gas temperature (EGT).
- Modifies fuel injection when the temperature is too high.
- Power restoration is slow and only when EGTs normalize.
- Moderate fuel injection is executed when FGTs are low.
- Sensor checks for plausibility are performed.
- Power output is restricted under the invalid conditions.
EGT is not the only monitored parameter as the Diesel Engine Control Unit (DECU) also tracks coolant temperature, ensuring no additional power is given during engine cold start periods. With regards to engine temperature, performance is adjusted in accordance with engine temp, where max power is available at ideal conditions.

IP68 RATED – EXTREME DURABILITY
The ARMAX ECU can withstand harsh off-road conditions having an IP68 rating which protects against immersion in dust, dirt, and water past 1 meter. This is accomplished through:
- Heatsink for PCB aluminum billet base
- Glass-reinforced ABS housing
- Perimeter advanced sealing system
- Automotive pressure/condensation vent
- Vibration/thermal shock protective resin filling

MAP SELECTION – 5 MODES
A map selection switch located inside the cabin is illuminated and enables users to alter engine behavior with a single button click:
- COMFORT – Power is delivered progressively and smoothly, tailored to daily driving needs.
- SPORT – Enhanced throttle and torque responsiveness for improved performance.
- TOWING – Greater focus on low-end torque for better performance under heavy load.
- TRACTION ASSIST – Smooth off-road response to driver input.
- STANDARD – Engine relapses to OEM calibration (preferred during run-in then TC set to idle).
The switch comes with a 500mm flying lead for flexible mounting.

CALIBRATION FILES
Common vehicle calibration files alongside popular standard vehicle add-ons like snorkel, intercooler, and exhaust are provided on file by Safari. These files are updated easily to support future modifications and are available to ARMAX dealers with proper authorization.

VEHICLE-SPECIFIC WIRING HARNESS
Each ARMAX ECU comes with a wiring harness tailored to fit the Ford Ranger PXII & PXIII 3.2L 5Cyl. Features include:
- Preventive OE-style (Original Equipment) routing that avoids touch heat, vibration, or other cross-interference.
- Gold plated, waterproof connectors.
- External dual-layer wire protection
- Clearly labeled breakout points.
- Natural plug-and-play engineering meaning does not require cutting or soldering.
The harness can be detached discreetly without any marks to the vehicle for simple restoration.
MOUNTING BRACKETS
Safari’s ARMAX ECU has a mounting system manufactured using 3mm laser-cut carbon steel which is zinc plated and powder coated to prevent corrosion. All the hardware materials is made using stainless steel and uses factory bolt holes and no drilling is required
CAD (Computer Aided Design) modeling allows compatibility with additional aftermarket equipment.
- Secondary fuel filters
- Catch cans
- Auxiliary batteries
- Air compressors

M1 TECHNOLOGY
M1 Technology empowers ARMAX ECUs with:
- Precise engine tuning options
- Capture logs of changing data in real-time.
- Fast transfer of data with PC or communication
- Proprietary PCB hardware by Safari
- Optimal performance indicators in real-time
DRIVETRAIN PROTECTION
In conjunction with the engine protection strategy, the ARMAX ECU employs torque reduction management during gear shift to “auto” mode control, emulating OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) shift control logic. This safeguards the transmission’s internal parts and guarantees dependable drivetrain durability.
ULTRA-FAST MICROPROCESSOR
The ECU incorporates a proprietary microprocessor which alters parameters within the timeframes of microseconds. It is designed for speed and durability, ensuring prompt response to driving conditions in real time.

THROTTLE MANAGEMENT
The ARMAX ECU offers an unparalleled level of customizability with respect to throttle response and pedal sensitivity, enabling full adjustment based on individual driving styles or specific terrains.
AUXILIARY INPUTS / OUTPUTS
The multitude of I/O options offered by the ARMAX ECU facilitates tailored upgrades and sensor modifications including, but not limited to:
- 4 digital inputs
- 8 analog voltage I/O
- 2 thermocouple inputs
- 2 low-side outputs
- 2 half-bridge outputs
Such flexibility makes the system ideal for advanced tuning and off-road applications.
ETHERNET COMMUNICATIONS
The Ethernet capabilities of the ECU allow for:
- Monitoring engines in real-time
- Timestamps for fast updates and downloads
- Remote or PC connected live tuning
- Comprehensive data logging via M1 Tune software

AUSTRALIAN MADE
Every Safari ARMAX ECU is designed, built, and placed together in Australia, where it subjected to severe local tests, which is consistent with Safari’s brand image of quality and performance in 4×4 engineering.
